Museums: The exhibition “Faces of Old Believers” in the Samara Art Museum
In the Samara Art Museum was opened an exhibition "Faces of Old Believers", which tells about the history of Ancient Orthodox community in Samara, Russia and CIS.
Samara community of Russian Old Orthodox Church is the largest spiritual and cultural center of the Old Believers in the Volga region. Its collections include rare manuscripts and incunabula and liturgical singing books, ancient icons, church utensils and more than 1,000 photos from the family archives of parishioners, teachers not only in Samara, but also different regions of Russia. In the community is operated its own museum, which is actively updated with rare documents, objects, ancient icons, books, and casting.
The exhibition at the Samara Art Museum features photographs and objects illustrating the history of not only the community, but also the Pomor Old Believers in Russia and CIS of past times to the present day. At the exhibition you can see the pictures of the Old Believer churches and community leaders and the merchants of the Old Believers, photographs from family albums Samara, Saratov, Vladimir and other Russian provinces.
Through presented photographs there is the opportunity to see and feel the religious and everyday life of the Old Believers Russian side.
The exhibition will run until July 18.
