The exhibition "The Year 1946. The beginning" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Kaliningrad region, is part of the permanent exhibition of historical and art museum. It tells the story of the formation of the Kaliningrad Region and its formation in the first postwar decade. It was then in the history of the former German province, which became the new Soviet territory, there was a fracture. At the end of the Second World War on the basis of the decisions of the Berlin (Potsdam) Conference in 1945, one third of East Prussia with the city of Konigsberg became part of the Soviet Union. April 7, 1946 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Konigsberg region was established, and July 4, 1946 it was renamed Kaliningrad.

The exhibition presents the authentic historical objects from the collections of the Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum. There are about 1000 exhibits. Houseware of Soviet people and residents, documents, photographs, newsreels, costumes, products of industrial enterprises, sculpture, paintings… Museum means recreate the atmosphere in which a new area of ​​Russia was born.

Based on materials from the collection of the oldest in the region the museum exposition revealed the following themes: life and national traditions of the first settlers, the establishment of the Soviet government bodies, administrative and territorial structure, industry revival, agriculture, urban infrastructure, opening of the first health care, education and culture. The exhibition contains interactive elements and offers the visitor to become a direct participant in the historical process, to feel the true spirit of the time. The exposition is designed so that the story, shown here in detail, event, and, to a large extent, through the fate of people, causes a feeling of empathy and gives a wealth of information for the understanding of a bygone era.
