From January 22 to March 20, 2024 the Presidential Library was provided the exhibition “Russian State Archive of the Navy. 300 years of history” which is dedicated to the largest institution preserving the most important documents about the history of the Russian fleet from its creation at the end of the 17th century until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Read more…

 

From January 22 to March 20, 2024 the Presidential Library was provided the exhibition “Vice Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov (1848–1904) - an outstanding sailor and scientist. Marking the 175th anniversary of his birth”. The exhibition project is based on documents from the collections of the Russian State Archive of the Navy. The exhibition showcases the outstanding Russian sailor, scientist, shipbuilder, hero of the Russo-Turkish and Russian-Japanese wars, Vice Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov, who would be 175 in 2024. Read more

 

From November 21 to December 29, 2023 the exhibition “Culture under the auspices of the state: from the Ministry of the Imperial Court to the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation” was held at the Presidential Library. From June 13 to June 30, 2023, the electronic exhibition “Arab Manuscripts. Highlights of St. Petersburg Collections” was presented at the Presidential Library. The exhibition presented ancient Arab manuscripts from the collections of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Eastern Department of the Gorky Scientific Library of St. Petersburg State University.

 

From June 8 to June 30, 2023, guests of the Presidential Library had an opportunity to visit an exhibition of paintings by St. Petersburg artist Anatoly Annenkov, a member of the Union of Artists, a teacher at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts. Read more...

From January 18 to February 23, 2023 the Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the multimedia exhibition "Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute in the Severe Years of the Siege", timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad. From December 2 to 26, 2022 the photo exhibition "The Hero's Wife" was opened at the Presidential Library

The exposition showcased 50 portraits of women whose spouses devoted their lives to serving the Motherland. These are 50 photo stories about beauty, faith, resilience and selflessness. As part of the project, the wives of Russian servicemen were photographed in their spouses' military jackets. The jacket carries a sacred thought - it is a burden and responsibility that falls not only on men, but also on women's shoulders. Each photo is accompanied by letters from participants to their spouses. Read more…

 

From September 6 to October 30, 2022 eight Russian cities at once – anniversary celebrants of 2022 - was exhibited at Senate Square, 3, as part of the new project "Discovering Russia with the Presidential Library". The goal of the project, which was became an annual event, is to show the original character of individual Russian cities and regions, to show their history and sights. This year the heroes of the project are Moscow (875 years), Murom (1160 years), Kursk (990 years), Totma (885 years), Vologda (875 years), Veliky Ustyug (875 years), Kostroma (870 years) and Sergiev-Posad (685 years). The exhibition halls presented the most valuable materials from the Presidential Library’s collections: old maps and plans, documentary evidence of famous natives, places and events - everything that will allow learning about this or that city better. From May 13 to August 14, 2022 the exhibition “The Creator of the Russian Welfare…”, timed to coincide with the 350th anniversary of the Russian Emperor Peter I, was available at the Presidential Library. This is how the 18th-century poet Alexander Sumarokov spoke about the first emperor of Russia, whose name is associated with epoch-making events for the country transformations. The exposition materials reveal the history of the creation of the fleet and the regular army by Peter I and introduce reforms in the field of public administration: the establishment of the Senate and the Synod, the formation of the executive authorities - boards. More…

 

From May 13 to August 14, 2022 the exhibition "Great Peter introduced science to us..." spotlighting the emperor's contribution to the development of Russian science and scientific education, was available at the Presidential Library. Rare editions tell about the founding of the first Russian printing house in Amsterdam and the development of national book printing, about Peter's acquaintance with European scientists Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Christian Wolf, anatomist and collector Frederick Ruysch, about the activities of the first academicians, the purchase of scientific instruments, the acquisition of collections, the formation of the library collections. From February 7 to April 22, 2022, the exhibition "Keepers of the Law: Marking the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Prosecutor's Office" took place in the building of the Presidential Library at Senate Square, 3. The exposition was devoted to the history of the prosecutor's office of the Russian Empire: its establishment, formation and development, the activities of the prosecutor generals of the Senate in 1722–1802 and the ministers of justice, who were prosecutor generals in 1802–1917. From October 18, 2021 to  January 23, 2022, the Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the exhibition “Sea Vessels to Be!": Marking the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Navy and the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Russian submarine fleet”. From December 20, 2019 to January 15, 2020 a historical and documentary exhibition “1939. The beginning of World War II” was opened in the Presidential Library. Archival documents, newsreels, photographs presented at the exposition illustrated events that led to a large-scale world conflict, made it possible to understand the reasons for the failure to create a broad anti-Hitler coalition with the participation of the USSR, as well as the logic of the actions of the Soviet leadership in the current international situation. More…

From January, 24 to May, 13, 2019 the exhibition “Materialized Memory: Defence and Siege of Leningrad in Museum Expositions. Marking the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege” was opened in the Presidential Library. Documents, photographs, items from widely and little-known expositions and collections of various institutions in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region are among the exhibits. From May 21 to September 20, 2018 the exhibition "More than a game: to the FIFA World Cup in Russia" was opened in the Presidential Library.

The exposition attracted interest of all fans of the most popular sport in the world. It broadly highlighted the major milestones in the history of Russian football, which homeland can be considered St. Petersburg. It was in our city that the first football match took place, and the first football league appeared in the country. From March 16 to April 13, 2018 an exhibition of Vladimir Olkhov "Hero City of Sevastopol - today" was opened at the Presidential Library.

The exposition features works performed in complex and rare mixed technique (gouache, acrylic, tempera), which depict the views of the artist's native city at different times of the year. Historical and architectural monuments, panoramas of Sevastopol and its environs, created by a virtuoso master, are not only accurate, but also filled with a special mood, harmony, purity and light. More...

From September 1, 2017 to February 22, 2018 for the visitors of the Presidential Library an exhibition "To protect nature means to protect the Motherland" : for the Year of Ecology in Russia" was opened. The Year of Ecology and the year of specially protected natural territories were not accidentally chosen by the theme of 2017. January 11 marked the 100th anniversary of the first state reserve in the history of Russia - Barguzinsky. From December 14, 2017 to January 14, 2018 the Presidential Library hosts a multimedia exhibition "Knight of Art. To Albert Charkin's 80th birthday". Thanks to modern computer technologies, guests of the Presidential Library can get a holistic view of the work of the national artist Albert Serafimovich: images from the most remote corners of the world will literally "come to life" on plasma panels, the slides will be accompanied with detailed annotations that present the history of creation of each work. From September 4 to December 8, 2017 an exhibition dedicated to two important events in the history of the North-West region of Russia - the 90th anniversary of the Leningrad and the 80th anniversary of the Vologda region - was opened in the exhibition hall of the Presidential Library.

Today, the Leningrad and Vologda regions are neighbors, along with other regions that are part of the North-Western Federal District. Meanwhile, despite the formal unification in the framework of one district in 2000, most of the regions for centuries formed a certain territorial, economic and political unity. Visitors of the exhibition will learn how the territories of the modern Vologda and Leningrad regions have been developed since antiquity to the present day, and the exposition will tell about key events in their history.
