Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin elected the President of the Russian Federation

On March 26, 2000 took place the elections of the president of the Russian Federation won by V. V. Putin.

The decision to conduct the early elections of the Russian Federation president was made by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the RF on January 5, 2000 due to B. N. Yeltsin’s retirement of December 31, 1999. The Central election committee registered 12 candidates for the president’s post such as: S. S. Govorukhin, U. A. Djabraylov, V. V. Zhirinovsky, V. V. Zuyganov, E. A. Pamfilova, A. I. Podberezkin, V. V. Putin, E. V. Savostyanov, Yu. I. Skuratov, K. A. Titov, A.-G. M. Tuleev, G. A. Yavlinsky. After the registration E. V. Savjstyanov withdrew his candidacy and the ballot paper now comprised 11 last names.

The number of voters according to electoral roll was 109 million 372 thousand 046 people. In the elections participated 75 million 181 thousand 071 people.

According to the voting results Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin won the elections in the first round. He collected the majority of voices: 39 million 740thousand 434 voices (52.94%). The second place occupied G. A. Zuyganov: 21 million 928 thousand 471 voices (29.21%).

V. V. Putin was born on October 7, 1952 in Leningrad in a family of workers. In 1970 he entered the International Law branch of the Law Department of the Leningrad State University n. a. Zhdanov. Upon graduation from the university in 1975 he joined the agencies for the state security. He served in the First Chief Directorate (foreign intelligence service) of the KGB of USSR and had worked for a long time in German Democratic republic. In 1991-1996 Putin worked in St.-Petersburg city hall and in August of 1996 was transferred to Moscow for the post of the assistant of the chartered secretary of the Russian President.

In August of 1999 the State Duma approved the candidacy of Putin for the position of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

From December 31, 1999 Putin had been acting as the Russian President.

In 2004 V. V. Putin was re-elected for the second term.

From 2008 he holds the post of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

March 4, 2012 Vladimir Putin was elected the President of the Russian Federation.

March 18, 2018 Vladimir Putin was elected the President of the Russian Federation for the fourth term, receiving 76.69% of the votes.
