In St. Petersburg, on Nadezhdinskaya Street in 1858, architect V. V. Shtrom built a two-story mansion for the honorary citizen of the city Nikolai Menyaev. In the 1900s a mansion with an adjoining plot was acquired by the Mayak Society for the Moral, Mental and Physical Development of Young People. In the years 1906-1908. architect P.Yu. Suzor attached a gymnasium building to the mansion. In 1918, instructor courses in out-of-school education were organized in this house, which were soon transformed into an Institute for Out-of-School Education. The building remained behind the institute until 1965.
