The scientific and practical conference "The Eleventh Makushin Readings" was held in Tomsk

May 29-30 in Tomsk on the basis of the Pushkin Scientific Library of the Tomsk State University and the Tomsk Regional Universal Scientific Library a scientific and practical conference "The Eleventh Makushin Readings" took place.

The program of the conference included sections on the following aspects of book culture:

  • problem areas of adaptation of the book culture to the challenges of information civilization;
  • traditions and modern trends in the development of regional book publishing, the book industry;
  • a library in the changing socio-cultural environment of the region;
  • international cooperation in the field of book culture;
  • a book and reading on the territories of indigenous and small peoples of Siberia and the Far East;
  • actual problems of preserving and promoting the book heritage;
  • development of regional infrastructure for promoting books and reading.

The conference program included a round table with presentations of the collection "P. I. Makushin: a new look at the legend" and master classes on technologies for the preservation of manuscript and early printed books.

May 30 the Tomsk Regional Center of the Presidential Library has become a platform for one of the sections of the conference. The hosts of the section were the Director of the Scientific Library of the Tomsk State University M. O. Shepel and the Director of the Scientific and Technical Library of the Tomsk Polytechnic University I. V. Kotova. The topics of the reports of the participants of this section were devoted to electronic resources and information and telecommunication technologies in the field of book culture.

On the website of the Presidential Library the region is represented by the collection "Tomsk region: Pages of History". The selection includes essays, statistical and cartographic materials, archival documents of the late XIX - early XX century, covering the demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the Tomsk region. The current Charter of the Tomsk region is presented.
