The hundredth meeting of the Presidential Library’s cinema club spotlights young filmmakers

The Presidential Library hosted the hundredth meeting of its cinema club. On the agenda was the show of films – prize-winners of the 9th All-Russian "Kinoostrov" Children's Cinema Festival.

In the opening address Anna Savchuk, the director of the cinema festival noted, that the cooperation with the Presidential Library has been developing for several years, being a very important interaction aimed at achieving a common goal - to support and promote children's multimedia activities.

Guests of the club, as well as the event’s remote participants, watched several films awarded with a jury prize in different nominations. The audience gave an especially enthusiastic welcome to the film "Survivor” made by young Yakut filmmakers - a touching story about a four-year-old girl, who had spent ten days alone in a taiga. Among other highlights was a short film "A Fairy Tale on Asphalt" produced by children of “Cinematica" film school (St. Petersburg), who made use of a rare "chalk animation" technology.

The year 2018 saw the 9th All-Russian "Kinoostrov" Children's Cinema Festival with "The Point on the Map" being its theme. The contest has attracted more than 150 films from all over Russia - from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka. The mission of "Kinoostrov" Cinema Festival is to help the growing generation in shaping their creative world view, to encourage interest in making films for children and the youth, as well as to involve children and young people in the world of cinema.

The presentation and promotion of children's multimedia works is one of the conceptual directions of activities of the Presidential Library’s cinema club. Thus, in 2013 the best multimedia works of schoolchildren were shown in the building in Senate Square for the first time. After that "Works of Young Filmmakers at the Presidential Library" festival became a traditional event in May. Within 5 years it has attracted more than 30 best studios of Russia and abroad.
