Norilsk from an unexpected side is presented at the Presidential Library multimedia exhibition

18 July 2018

The Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the multimedia exhibition "Northern Flowers", dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Norilsk, the largest city in the Arctic world.

As it was noted, the exposition, along with the already traditional Arctic events of the Presidential Library, opens new opportunities for the North exploration.

Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs Herman Shirokov stressed that the exhibition's themes make it a landmark for St. Petersburg: "It is important that, apart from aesthetics, the exposition is cognitive, and knowledge means understanding. And when we understand the North better, the interaction between our regions in different directions will become even better".

The exhibition of works by photographer Marina Peshkova shows Norilsk from an unexpected side, - noted the research adviser of humanitarian projects of the company "Nornickel" Julia Kantor: "We are accustomed that this is a heavy metallurgical city with Nordic character and difficult weather, but Norilsk is also amazing nature, openness and the warmth of the local residents. All this is reflected in the proposed photographs". She added that in the future, photographic works will enrich the digital library of the Presidential Library, and it will be possible to have a look at the exposition from any part of the world.

Thanks to the works of Marina Peshkova, the guests of the Presidential Library can make a kind of photo-tour around the city-hero, get familiar with its residents. The exhibition presents pictures of different genres - from reportage to art. This is the verge of a kaleidoscope of impressions about Norilsk: landscapes, amazing and unexpectedly rich flora and fauna, everyday scenes, portraits of Norilsk citizens.

The multimedia exhibition “Northern Flowers”, created with the assistance of Norilsk Nickel, was another event in a series of Presidential Library projects dedicated to the Arctic region. Thus, on the last day of winter in the historical building on the Senate Square, the Arctic Day is annually held, where scholars, researchers, representatives of state and business structures, journalists, artists and many others take part.

The Presidential Library portal features thematic collection "Development of the Arctic", which includes research studies, essays, memoirs, archival affairs, official documents, newsreels, photographs telling about Arctic travel and expeditions, the Arctic Ocean, territories and lives of their inhabitants, the development of polar lands from ancient times to the present time, as well as many other materials.

The exhibition "Northern Flowers" in the Presidential Library will run until July 31, 2018. To visit the exposition, please, pre-first register by phone (812) 334-25-14 or send an email to: excursion@prlib.ru.
