Presidential Library spotlights the development of the historical science at Russian universities

19 September 2018

University traditions of higher historical education was the theme of the video lecture of the "Knowledge of Russia" series. The event initiated by the Far Eastern Federal University within the Cooperation Agreement between the Presidential Library and the Association of Leading Russian Universities took place in the Presidential Library on September 19, 2018. The video lecture brought together students of the humanities of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region universities, while the Far Eastern Federal University students joined them via videoconferencing.

Video lecture participants learned about the stages of development of the higher historical education at St. Petersburg State University, whose graduates later made a considerable contribution towards the development of the historical science in the educational institutions of the Russian Far East.

The portal of the Presidential Library provides access to the works of prominent historians, who had given lectures at St. Petersburg State University. They feature such rare books as “Lectures on Russian History, delivered by Professor of St. Petersburg State University Ye. Ye. Zamyslovsky during the 1882–83 academic year” (1882), S. F. Platonov’s  “Boris Godunov” (1921),  “The Russian tribe from ancient times” (1919) by A. A. Shakhmatov, the historical essay by A. S. Lappo-Danilevsky “Russian industrial and commercial enterprises in the first half of 18th century” (1899), and Ye. V. Tarle’s “Nakhimov” (1942), to name just a few.

What is more, the Presidential Library has built up an individual electronic collection, which presents books on the development of various stages of education in Russia: higher, primary, gymnasium, and female education.

Another electronic collection “University Science at the Presidential Library” includes abstracts of theses defended at Russian federal universities in history,  law, philology, economics and other disciplines, which comply with the acquisition profile of the Presidential Library  - the national electronic repository of digital copies of major documents on the history, theory and practice of the Russian statehood and the Russian language.
