The Presidential Library has become an information partner of the Telecom-Planet Olympiad for Schoolchildren in the Field of Information Telecommunications.

This unique competition is the only project in the country aimed at promoting the telecommunications industry among young people. It helps not only to identify and support young talented people, but also to establish a dialogue between senior pupils and students. The event has been organized with the support of the Federal Agency of Communications and the Government of St. Petersburg. It is held by the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications, which for many years has been actively cooperating with the Presidential Library.

For the right to be the best of the best in Telecom Planet, more than 4,000 pupils of 9–11th grades from Russia and the CIS countries compete annually. The Olympiad consists of two stages. The first - correspondence - is carried out online. It finishes February 28, 2019. Then, the hundred strongest will compete in knowledge at the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications in St. Petersburg two days running - on March 28 and 29.

Participants will complete tasks from the school curriculum in mathematics, computer science and physics. A special block of tasks is the world of telecommunications. It consists of questions on the history and development of the Internet, cellular communications, television, radio broadcasting and IT-technologies.

In 2018, the joint effective work between the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications was five years old. Last year, organizations signed a new, supplemental agreement on the development of partnerships. It involves the implementation of a number of large projects. In particular, in the near future it is planned to open points of remote access to the digital collections of the Presidential Library in the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications’ campuses in St. Petersburg and in the regions in Arkhangelsk and Smolensk. Thus, students and teachers will have access to more than 650 thousand electronic copies of unique text, audio and video materials relating to the history of the formation of the statehood of Russia and the Russian language.

The Presidential Library and the University of Telecommunications will join efforts in planning and holding joint research and practical seminars, symposia, conferences, meetings and other events. The parties agreed on sharing experiences.

A separate clause in the agreement concerns students. They will be able to practice at various levels at the Presidential Library. In addition, the parties agreed on the participation of students and the lecturing staff of the University of Telecommunications in video lectures, webinars and cinema clubs, which take place in the building on Senate Senate, 3. The newspaper of the university "Svyazist" already regularly covers events held in the Presidential Library.

Today, the Presidential Library is one of the largest sites in St. Petersburg for holding various events, including high and international levels. Full access to the digital collections is carried out thanks to an extensive network of remote access centers, which are located in all 85 regions of Russia and 38 countries of the world. Today, there are more than 800 of them.
