Regional readings “N. Ya. Danilevsky’s Oeuvre” held in Simferopol

December 10, 2019 the Franco Crimean Republican Universal Research Library (Simferopol) hosted the VII Regional Readings “N. Ya. Danilevsky’s Oeuvre”, dedicated to the birthday of the Russian sociologist, cultural scientist, publicist, naturalist and geopolitician.

The key event of the readings was the interregional web conference “Contribution of N. Ya. Danilevsky to the Development of Scientific Thought in Russia” with the participation of representatives of the N. Ya. Danilevsky Institute of Russian-Slavic Studies (Moscow, Kursk) and specialists from the Presidential Library (St. Petersburg).

The words of greeting were delivered by Chairman of the Committee for Culture and the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Nikolai Volkov; representative of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea; Director General of the Presidential Library Ilya Bykovnikov (video greetings) and Director of the Franco Crimean Republican Universal Research Library Elena Yasinova.

Maria Bishokova, a specialist of the user services department of the Presidential Library, made a video report. The web conference participants were presented with critical articles from periodicals and selected works by major Russian thinkers - V. Solovyov, N. Strakhov, K. Leontiev, V. Rozanov, devoted to N. Ya. Danilevsky and his predecessors, Slavophilism and the Russian idea.

An informational supplement to the local history readings was a bibliographic review of literature from the collection of the rare book Conservative Trends in Russian Public Thought of the 19th Century: N. Ya. Danilevsky’s oeuvre, a bibliographic tour of the exhibition of materials “The Russian Strategist of Modern Russia” and the video presentation “Outstanding Apostle of the Slavs Nikolai Danilevsky" prepared by specialists of the central library of Crimea.

The Presidential Library’s portal features Republic of Crimea: Pages of History collection. It is dedicated to a unique historical and cultural reserve and includes research, essays, archival documents, photographs and other materials which spotlight the administrative, socio-economic, socio-political and cultural development of the peninsula from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century.
