New virtual tour of the Museum of Military History "Nevsky Pyatachok" now available on the Presidential Library’s portal

17 December 2020

Marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, specialists from the Presidential Library and the Museum Association of Leningrad Region present a new interactive project - a virtual tour of the Nevsky Pyatachok State Museum.

The legendary "Nevsky Pyatachok" is one of the most heroic pages of the defence of Leningrad. Under this name, a small bridgehead on the left bank of the Neva opposite the village of Nevskaya Dubrovka went down in history. Here, for 285 days (from September 19, 1941 to April 29, 1942 and from September 16, 1942 to March 1943), the confrontation with the enemy lasted, but none of the attempts to break the blockade from this line was crowned with success. More than two hundred thousand Soviet soldiers lost their lives for a small piece of land conquered from the Nazis.

Today, the main line of the Nevsky Pyatachok Museum's activity is the formation of the Book of Memory, which records information about all the defenders of the Motherland who died and were buried here.

The exposition is dedicated to heroic events. The atmosphere of the war years can be recaptured through the authentic objects of that time: small arms, devices for warfare used by the warring parties, as well as household and personal belongings of military personnel. In addition, the museum recreates a real dugout and displays a diorama reflecting the horror of the war.

Today "Nevsky Pyatachok" is valuable for the fact that it was created and then reconstructed by people who considered it their duty to devote themselves to preserving the memory of warrior-heroes: museum workers, historians, ethnographers, schoolchildren and all residents of Dubrovka. Thanks to the new virtual tour, the atmosphere of this truly folk museum has been preserved.

Today visitors to the Presidential Library’s portal, without leaving their homes, have opportunity to visit the blockade expositions of other museums - partners of the institution: the State Memorial Museum of Defence and Siege of Leningrad, the Museum "Kobona: The Road of Life", the unique school museum "And the Muses Were not Silent...".

The institution’s portal provides temporary exhibitions related to the Great Patriotic War which were moved from real space to digital. These are virtual tours of the exhibitions: “1939. The Outbreak of the Second World War", "The Great Patriotic War, which determined the Outcome of the Second World War. Marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, “Eureka and “The Island”: Tehran-43 and Yalta-45. History of Landmark Decisions”, “Materialized memory: Defence and Siege of Leningrad in Museum Expositions. Marking the 75th Anniversary of the Complete Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege", "An Artist Against the Fuhrer: Fascism in the caricatures of Boris Yefimov. Marking the 80th anniversary of the Outbreak of World War II”.

Virtual projects are an actively developing area of the Presidential Library's activity, thanks to which the electronic repository, along with paper, photo, audio and video materials, is replenished with exhibits from the exhibitions and items from museum collections.

Today there are more than twenty-five virtual tours and excursions available for remote visits. They are now available on the Presidential Library’s portal in the Exhibitions section at the link https://www.prlib.ru/about_exhibition.
