The Presidential Library’s video lecture illustrated Ryazan period in the life of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin

February 24, 2021 the Presidential Library hosted a video lecture entitled “M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin and Ryazan Territory". The event was organized jointly with the Ryazan Regional Gorky Universal Scientific Library.

The event was free. The meeting was held remotely and was broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the program of live events, on the institution's YouTube channel and on the VKontakte social network.

Irina Gracheva, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Literature at the Yesenin Ryazan State University, told about the life and career of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin in Ryazan: in 1858-1860 he served as vice-governor, and in 1867-1868 he was the governor of the provincial Treasury. In addition, during these years he wrote a number of fiction and journalistic works and collected rich material for subsequent literary work.

The electronic collection of the Presidential Library illustrates life of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin. It was prepared on the eve of the 195th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Russian literature, which was celebrated on January 27, 2021. The collection includes digital copies of the complete collected works of the writer and rare editions of individual works, studies of his work. The first publications of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin's works in the journals Otechestvennye zapiski and Vestnik Evropy are of particular interest.
