Exhibition dedicated to the reform of 1861 opened in Penz

February 19, 2021 the Lermontov Penza Regional Library opened an exhibition dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom in Russia.

The guests of the library learned how the reform was being prepared, who prepared the draft “Regulations on peasants emerging from serfdom”, whether the tsarist will turned out to be a real liberation for the peasants. These questions were illustrated by the materials from the collections of the Lermontov Penza Regional Library and the Presidential Library.

The demonstration of the book exposition was accompanied by the presentation of electronic content from the Presidential Library’s collections, which contain digitized rare old editions. For example, the book by S. A. Vengerov "The main figures of the liberation of the peasants" (1903), "The history of the reign of Emperor Alexander II: (in pictures)" (1882), a six-volume encyclopedia "The Great Reform: Russian Society and the Peasant Question in the Past and Present" (1911) and others.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Penza Region: Pages of History. It includes archival files, essays, studies and statistical materials spotlighting various aspects of the history of the region at the end of the 18th - first third of the 20th centuries: demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political, etc.
