Electronic reading room of the Presidential Library to open in Nizhny Novgorod Region

The grand opening of the remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library based on the state budgetary educational institution of higher education "Nizhny Novgorod State Engineering and Economic University" will take place on June 23, 2021, at 10:30.

Rector of the University Anatoly Shamin and Deputy Director General of the Presidential Library Yaroslava Borozdina will deliver a welcoming speech. The electronic collections of the Presidential Library and the possibilities of its use, as well as projects for students and scientific and pedagogical workers will be presented via video-conference mode. Representatives of the university, for their part, will provide those present with the works of students, performed using the resources of the Presidential Library.

The remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library based on the university is already the 11th in a row in Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Successful cooperation with institutions of the region has been developing since 2013. Remote electronic reading rooms are based on the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary, the Lenin Nizhny Novgorod State Regional Universal Scientific Library, the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, centralized library systems of various regions of the region and other institutions.

The remote reading rooms of the Presidential Library provide full access to the institution’s collections, which contain more than one million depository items. They are electronic copies of books and periodicals, archival documents, audio and video recordings, photographs, scientific and educational films, thesis and other materials. In addition to access to unique resources, with the opening of each remote e-reading room, residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region have got more opportunities to participate in conferences, webinars, video lectures and other events of the Presidential Library.

It should be noted that during the acquisition of the Presidential Library’s collections, special attention is paid to the development of regional collections. One of them is dedicated to the history of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The collection includes official documents, archival materials, studies, essays, statistical, reference, cartographic and visual materials that spotlight the administrative structure, geographical location, demographic, economic, socio-political, socio-cultural and other aspects of the development of Nizhny Novgorod Region in various historical periods.

Cooperation with the regions is one of the priority areas of the Presidential Library's activity. Today, more than 1,200 centers of remote access to library resources have been opened in all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. 44 remote access centers of the Presidential Library are now open in 30 countries abroad.
