The Presidential Library provided a series of events at the St. Petersburg International Book Salon

The Presidential Library attended the XVII St. Petersburg International Book Salon which was held from May 19-22, 2022. Its dates are traditionally timed to coincide with the celebration of the foundation of St. Petersburg. The organizer of the Book Salon is the Government of St. Petersburg represented by the Committee for Press and Interaction with Mass Media with the support of the Russian Book Union.

President of the Russian Book Union Sergey Stepashin visited the Presidential Library’s stand which featured video materials about digital collections available on the institution's portal. Among them were Memory of the Great VictoryConstitution. Basic LawRussian PeopleHouse of RomanovOuter Space and others. The stand also represented video films  Alexander Nevsky - Saint Patron of St. Petersburg and Teachers of Peter I, based on unique materials from the library's collections. Visitors to the Book Salon had opportunity to learn about the activities of the Presidential Library including educational projects of the institution and the work of the publishing and printing complex.

The Presidential Library’s stand was held in the format of a "live consultation" on any issues related to the activities of the institution: how to enroll in the library and find materials in the collections; how to get to exhibitions, video lectures and cinema clubs taking place on Senate Square, 3; what printing products the Presidential Library produces. Here one has opportunity to note the 2021 editions of the Book Culture of Moscow Russia in the 15th–17th centuries and "Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky in Russian legal and historical science: on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth".

Visitors to the Book Salon were also able to learn about the work of remote access centers of the Presidential Library. Today there are more than 1400 of them which run in all subjects of the Russian Federation based on central libraries in the regions, in government agencies, museums, archives and educational institutions, as well as in a number of foreign countries. The volume of the electronic collections of the Presidential Library exceeds one million depository items.

From May 19-21 in the lecture hall of pavilion "B" specialists of the scientific and educational department of the Presidential Library held a quiz game for schoolchildren and their parents "Many years ago the Tsar deigned to be born", timed to coincide with the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I. The event covered topics such as the childhood of Peter I, mastering various professions and crafts, the development of science in the country, the foundation and construction of St. Petersburg. The development of the quiz involved a number of documents from the Presidential Library. This manual for the education and upbringing of children of the nobility, compiled at the direction of Peter "Youth Honest Mirror" is a unique literary and pedagogical monument of the early XVIII century, various engravings, videos and other materials. Schoolchildren found out what Peter I was famous for, what mark he left in Russian history and why he was remembered and revered even after three centuries.

May 19 within the framework of participation in the information and educational event “Donbass. The Right to Life”, attended by writers, historians and public figures of St. Petersburg, specialists of the Presidential Library presented the digital collection Memory of the Great Victory telling about the cultural and educational projects of the institution. The event was organized by the Union of Writers of Russia.

The Book Salon was held for the second time on Palace Square. This year the event brought together more than 250 participants. The main topics of the salon were the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I, the Year of Folk Art and the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, the 130th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Paustovsky, the 140th anniversary of the birth of Korney Chukovsky.
