The Presidential Library shared its experience at the International Forum

17 August 2022

The Presidential Library has joined the II International Forum "Through the Library - to the Development of Society" which took place on August 16-17, 2022 in Republic of Tuva. The event has been organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Tuva, the Pushkin National Library of Republic of Tuva and the Tuva Library Association.

The forum included a plenary session, practical workshops and sections.

Within the framework of the section "Digital Transformation of Libraries", a video report entitled "Integration of library and archival resources: the experience of the Presidential Library" was made by the Head of the Department of Linguistic and Software and Technological Support of the Presidential Library Yulia Selivanova.

The event participants were presented with the scientific and methodological manual "Archive Materials in the Library Catalog" formed by the Presidential Library. It is aimed primarily at library specialists who include archive materials (or their digital copies) in their catalogs and local history databases, and implement various projects using both library and archive materials. The manual provides basic information about the structure of the archival description, about mandatory and optional data elements at different levels of description – collections, inventory, file, document. The authors tried to take into account international standards, international rules for describing archival documents, domestic methods and recommendations. Much attention is paid to the presentation in the RUSMARC format of the main elements of the archival description. 14 complete examples of the content of digital copies of archive materials (at the level of a case or document) placed in the electronic catalog of the Presidential Library are highlighted.

The manual "Archive Materials in the Library Catalog" is available on the Presidential Library’s portal.

Yulia Selivanova emphasized that the Presidential Library was also implementing the program of additional professional education “Formation of Integrated Library Catalogs”, which deals with international standards in the field of cultural heritage, the formation of archival descriptions in the library catalog and etc. A state certificate will be issued at the end of a 32-hour program.
