Conference "Teachers and mentors: the Russian fleet to be!" held at the Presidential Library

On October 28, 2022, on the eve of the 326th anniversary of the creation of the regular Russian Navy, the Presidential Library hosted a scientific and practical conference “Teachers and mentors: the Russian Navy to be!”. The event followed the theme of 2022, dedicated to the anniversary of Peter the Great, the founder of the Russian Navy, with the theme of next year, declared by the President of Russia as the Year of the Teacher and Mentor.

The co-organizers of the event were the regional public organization of admirals and generals of the Navy "Admirals’ Club"; "United Shipbuilding Corporation", Admiralty Coordinating Council of Public Veteran Organizations of the Navy.

Opening the conference, Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov noted that the library paid much attention to the history and achievements of the Russian fleet; its electronic collections contain many archival documents and materials related to this topic. The annual holding of such major events as the Cadet Day and the Naval Knowledge Day at the Presidential Library has already become a tradition. In addition, video lectures and exhibitions are regularly held, telling about the creation of the Russian fleet and its role in the history of the country.

Greetings from Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District Alexander Gutsan were heard at the event as well as Chairman of the Education Committee of St. Petersburg Natalia Putilovskaya, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Grigoriev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

The conference was attended by heads of shipbuilding and machine-building plants, scientific centers and design bureaus, maritime educational, historical and cultural institutions. Also invited were the best cadets, Nakhimov students and cadets of Russian naval educational institutions and their mentors - veterans of the Navy and domestic shipbuilding.

After the greetings addressed to the participants and guests of the conference, a presentation of the 3-volume publication "The Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the Russian Navy" took place. Chairman of the regional public organization of admirals and generals of the Navy "Admirals’ Club" Admiral Viktor Chirkov, who held in 2012-2016 the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, in a solemn ceremony handed over the book to the Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov. Now the publication, which is a documentary chronicle of the revival of Russia's sea power, will enter the Presidential Library's collections.

The event, which took place in a face-to-face format, discussed both the history of the creation of the Russian regular fleet and its present day.

“Oceans and rivers of opportunities” was the topic of the first speech dedicated to the role of the shipbuilding industry in the economy of our country. The event participants learned about the work and plans set by the largest shipbuilding enterprises.

Special attention was paid to the role of teachers and mentors in the military-patriotic education of future naval shipbuilders, ship commanders, captains of civil fleet ships, specialists for shipyards and shipyards.
