Premiere of video tutorials start on Presidential Library's TV channel marking the Day of Knowledge

The Presidential Library presents the list of exciting film screenings on the TV Channel from September 1st to 15th.

On September 1, 2024, also known as Knowledge Day, a series of video lessons titled Russia in Second World War will be presented in the educational block of TV Channel, the  Presidential Library's channel. One lesson from this series will be broadcast daily at 10:00 Moscow time on weekdays. A total of 28 lessons have been prepared for this series. The scientific director of this project is Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov, while the idea behind it was conceived by Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov and Director of the Gorchakov Lyceum of MGIMO Ilya Demakov.

The Russia in Second World War cycle is designed for those who want to delve deeper into history or prepare for exams. Each video lesson includes links to primary sources available on the World War II in Archival Documents resource, a collaboration between the Presidential Library and the Federal Archives.

Also, due to the start of the new academic year, the Presidential Library has resumed broadcasting video lectures on its portal. These lectures cover topics that complement and expand on the school curriculum, and the theme of one of them, Knowledge of Russia, reflects the main areas of the Presidential Library's collection development: the history of the Russian state and law, and Russian as the official language of the Russian Federation.

Authoritative experts from scientific and educational institutions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and other Russian cities give lectures in these videos, which are broadcast on the educational TV channel from Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 16:00 Moscow time.

On September 1st, the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, there will be a series of video lectures titled World War II and the Great Patriotic War in Documents and Testimonies of the Era, Lessons of World War II in Light of Modern Geopolitics, USSR and International Relations in Europe on the Eve and at the Beginning of World War II, Trends in Modern Historiography of the Great Patriotic War, and The Great Patriotic War Through the Eyes of Writers and Schoolchildren of the 21st Century. The title of one of the lectures, My Participation in the Great Patriotic War, features Mikhail Bobrov, Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg, as a speaker. A military climber and front-line scout, Bobrov participated in the camouflage of high-rise landmarks in Leningrad, including Peter and Paul Cathedral, St. Isaac's Cathedral, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Admiralty and Mikhailovsky Castle.

The Day of Naval Knowledge is scheduled to be held on September 5 at the Presidential Library. A screening of documentaries will take place on the Library's portal in conjunction with this event. One of the films shown will be The Russian Fleet off the Coast of America, which tells the story of a Russian expedition to the shores of North America in 1863-1864, which has become one of the most significant events in the history of relations between Russia and America. Another film, The Cruiser Dmitry Donskoy: Russian Flag, will focus on the historic voyage of the second Pacific Squadron of the Russian Imperial Navy and the courageous actions of Russian sailors during the Tsushima battle. Through a virtual tour, visitors will also be able to explore the exhibition Ships to Be!.The video lectures prepared by the library cover the Naval Regulations of Peter the Great, military legislation introduced by Peter the Great, and the life and achievements of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov. They also discuss the legend of the Russian Navy - the icebreaker Svyatogor, now more commonly known as Krasin.

On September 8th, the day when Russia celebrates the 83rd anniversary of the start of the Siege of Leningrad, a screening of Alexey Oliferuk's film Siege Frescoes will take place. The film is dedicated to the less-known pages of the life in the besieged city. The TV project was created based on interviews with witnesses and participants of the siege. The authors focus on the daily life of Leningrad residents. The work of stores, hospitals, orphanages and factories is shown through the eyes of former workers, nurses and veterans of local air defense.

Also the virtual exhibition of the Presidential Library called Siege: Chronicle of Life is available on the portal. This exhibition presents unique documents, such as diaries, letters from the front, posters, books, film, and photo chronicles from the time of the siege. The video lectures About war and victory through the language of books, based on the works of Olga Bergholz and the authors of The Siege Book, Daniil Granin and Aleksandr Adamovich, as well as The Siege Tram: In the struggle for life in the city talk about the heroic deeds of Leningrad during the siege.

On the Memorial Day of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky, September 12th, a video presentation prepared by the Presidential Library will be shown, titled Alexander Nevsky: Patron Saint of St. Petersburg. The film highlights several key locations in the city associated with the patron saint, including the Holy Trinity Lavra of Alexander Nevsky and the Cathedral of the Theotokos of Feodorovskaya. Materials from the Presidential Library's collection Alexander Nevsky (1221-1263) will also be featured.
