Presidential Library presented animation project dedicated to Sevmash

19 November 2024

On November 19th, 2024 the Presidential Library hosted a screening of an animated film about Russia's largest shipbuilding enterprise, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

The film is titled Seva and Masha's Journey, and it is a 11-episode project dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the shipyard. This event took place on the same day as the anniversary, December 21st, 2024 and it tells viewers about the history of nuclear submarine shipbuilding and the Russian Navy.

It was created by students of the St. Petersburg State Stieglitz Academy of Art and Industry in collaboration with JSC PO Sevmash.

The cartoon was created based on historical documents and materials provided by JSC PO Sevmash within a short period of time - only during four academic months. The main characters, brother and sister Seva and Masha, travel through time to learn about the history of the shipyard's development - from the foundation of the Nikolo-Korelsky Monastery to the present day, including the construction of a giant plant and the creation of Russia's powerful nuclear submarine fleet.

The event will feature representatives from JSC PO Sevmash and the Main Command of the Russian Navy as well as authors and students involved in the project.

For reference: USC Joint Stock Company "Production Association 'Northern Machine-Building Enterprise'" (JSC "Sevmash") is the largest shipbuilding complex in Russia and the only shipyard in the country for the construction of nuclear submarines. The company's main activity is fulfilling the state defense order. Since 1939, a large-scale shipbuilding program has been implemented. During its history, Sevmash has delivered 140 nuclear submarines, 40 diesel submarines, and 45 surface ships to the Russian Navy. Ships built by the plant have set records for underwater speed, diving depth, and displacement, which have not yet been surpassed. Nuclear missile carriers created by shipbuilders at the shipyard have become the basis of Russia's naval component of nuclear forces. Currently, vessels are being built under the Borei-A and Yassen-M projects.. Maintenance of nuclear submarines of the fourth generation is being provided, repair of ships of the 11442M project is underway, and civil projects are currently being carried out.
