
Video lecture From Rome to the Third Rome: birth and flourishing of Russian statehood presented in Presidential Library
On January 20, 2025, at 14:00 Moscow time, the Presidential Library will host the first lecture of the new series, From Rome to the Third Rome: The Origin and Flourishing of Russian Statehood, as part of the Knowledge of Russia video lecture series. The topic of this lecture is Rus of Vladimir the Holy and Nova Roma: The Birth of a New State.
Oleg Ulyanov, honoured scientist, a doctor of historical sciences, professor and academician of both the Russian Academy of Arts and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, discussed how the marriage of Vladimir the Baptizer, who became related to the imperial Macedonian house, allowed the Rurik dynasty to quickly enter the European monarchical family and occupy a prominent position in its hierarchical structure.
e lecture series From Rome to the Third Rome: The Origin and Flourishing of Russian Statehood will explore the formation of the historical, cultural, and national identity of ancient Russia in the 10th-16th centuries.
It will focus on the evolution of ideological concepts and ideas about statehood and supreme power in Russia, particularly in the context of the influence of Byzantium and other cultures.
