
Presidential Library took part in ceremony of raising Navy Flag on submarine Yakutsk
On 11 June 2025, on the territory of the joint stock company Admiralty Shipyards, which is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, a solemn ceremony of hoisting the Navy Flag on the diesel-electric submarine Yakutsk took place.
Yuri Nosov, Director General of the Presidential Library, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Regional Branch of the Russian Military Historical Society, took part in the event as a guest of honour.
The solemn ceremony of hoisting the Navy Flag signifies the transfer of the ship to the Russian Navy.
The Yakutsk Project 636.3 submarine was laid down in August 2021. The submarine was launched in October 2024.
The modernised Project 636.3 was developed by the design bureau of USC Rubin. The project's submarines have higher (compared to previous projects) combat efficiency. The ship is equipped with the latest inertial navigation system, modern automated information and control system and powerful fast-acting torpedo-missile armament.
The Presidential Library and the joint-stock company Admiralty Shipyards are actively developing co-operation. In 2024, the year of the 320th anniversary of the foundation of the Admiralty Shipyards, an agreement on cooperation between the organisations was signed. One of the important areas of cooperation is holding joint events with the use of materials and documents from the Presidential Library's collection.
Along with documents on the history of the Russian statehood, the Presidential Library preserves the most important evidence of the formation and development of the Russian Navy: archive documents, rare books, maps and logs, photographs, etc. The Presidential Library regularly holds exhibitions, lectures and conferences on the history of the Russian Navy, sea voyages and discoveries. The library regularly holds exhibitions, lectures and conferences dedicated to the history of the Russian fleet, sea voyages and discoveries, famous navigators and naval leaders, leading enterprises of the Russian shipbuilding and shipbuilding industry.
