Video lecture dedicated to 100th anniversary of All-Russian Society of Blind held at Presidential Library
On 7 November 2025, the Presidential Library hosted a round table discussion entitled "A Century of Achievements by the All-Russian Society of the Blind: The St. Petersburg Dimension" as part of the "Knowledge of Russia" video lecture series, dedicated to the organisation's centenary.
The event highlighted the main stages in the formation and development of an organised social movement for visually impaired people as an institution for the social rehabilitation and integration of blind and partially sighted people in Russia. Participants were presented with the experience of public-private partnerships in the field of creating an accessible environment and conditions for the professional and creative self-realisation of people with severe visual impairments.
Effective practices in the field of education, employment promotion, and the organisation of cultural, leisure, and sports activities for visually impaired people were also demonstrated, and the achievements of blind people during the Great Patriotic War were noted.
The speakers included representatives of the Cultural and Sports Rehabilitation Centre of the St. Petersburg Regional Organisation of the All-Russian Society of the Blind, the A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, Boarding School No. 1 named after K.K. Grot, the Centre for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired, the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the State Special Central Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the Talking City project.
