The agreement on television content signed in the Presidential Library

On June 18, 2010 in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library was signed the quadripartite Agreement on creation and diffusion of television content. The Agreement will become the foundation for realization of the understanding reached between the Presidents of the two countries D. Medvedev and B. Obama and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library and the Library of Congress.

The Agreement’s conditions stipulate selection, restoration, digitization and diffusion of television content. ‘System Mass-media’ company has assigned the means to Gosfilmofond for restoration and digitization of American feature films. The restored movies on digital carriers will be provided to the Presidential Library holdings in order that the Library readers and the regional centers users could gain access to them. Later the materials will be passed over to the Library of Gongress.

With purpose of signing the documents to the Presidential Library came the RF President’s Affairs Administration Head V. I. Kozhin, Gosfilmofond of Russia Director General N. M. Borodachev and ‘System Mass-media’ company President A. V. Smirnov. From the side of the Presidential Library the Agreement was signed by its Director General A. P. Vershinin.

The day before A. P. Vershinin noted: ‘Signing of the agreement is one of the examples of private-public partnership in the field of cultural heritage preservation. We are creating the prerequisites and determining the rules of information exchange including international partners as well’.

The Agreement will represent one of the aspects of cooperation between the Presidential Library and the Library of Congress as a part of the reached understanding on collaboration in the field of coordination of national cultures along with other libraries, museums and archives of Russia and USA.

The Memorandum ‘On cooperation between the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library and the Library of Congress’ was signed on October 15, 2009 as a result of the Second meeting of the Russian-American Working group.
