Professor Brumfield visited Presidential Library

On August 25, 2010 William Brumfield, professor of Slavic studies from the Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana visited the Presidential Library. The visit was of familiarization type.

Professor is known for his researches and photography of wooden architecture of Vologda region towns, Perm, Tyumen, Tobolsk and Tomsk. His photographs are included in the collections of the Library of Congress and the “Meeting of Frontiers” project.

The program of the visit included a tour around the library, meeting with the Director General and specialists of the Library. During the conversation between William Brumfield and A. P. Vershinin the issues of preservation of the Russian culture and architecture monuments as well as the interest for the Russian culture in American universities were raised. During the meeting the professor presented the Presidential Library with his books “Ustyuzhna”, “Tobolsk: architectural heritage in photographs”, “Russian North: evidence by W. Brumfield” and other with the author’s photographs.

The lecture of Professor William Brumfield will be delivered during the round table “Territory of Russia: electronic resources of libraries and private collections” to be held in the Presidential Library on the 1st of September, the Day of Knowledge.
