The Presidential Library hosted the “Young Generation of the 21st century” conference

28 March 2012, the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library hosted the X Regional Conference “Young Generation of the 21st century.” High school students from educational institutions of St. Petersburg and Moscow got together to discuss social, cultural and ecological problems which concern today’s teenagers.

Representatives of culture, science and education have been invited to attend the conference as experts. Among them were: Yu. I. Kolosov, Blockade and Battle for Leningrad Historians’ Association President; S. G. Kolosova, Head of the “Besieged City Books” Library & Museum; Yu. Yu. Matskevitch, Children’s Museum Center of Historical Education Director, and others.

Director of the Children’s and Youth’s Art House of the Kalininsky District, T. N. Marusenko delivered a welcoming address at the grand opening ceremony of the jubilee conference. She wished the participants to have efficient discussions and stressed that their ideas expressed at the forum could be implemented with the support of the organizers.

Mostly the forum was held in a form of round tables. Students exchanged their opinions on the issues of youth’s contribution to preservation of the national cultural heritage, ecological security, role of young men in political life of the state. Participants discussed problems of toleration in the modern society, possibilities of self-expression for young men, impact of mass media on the conscience of modern teenagers.

During the pause between discussions the attendees were offered a tour of the Presidential Library. The guests visited exhibition projects “Sights of Russia. Color and Time” and “Revived Yamal Legends”, were informed how to become a reader of the Presidential Library and how to work with editions in the Electronic Reading Room.

A the end of the event the most active participants were awarded with letters of commendation for raising the most interesting questions, searching for their solution, skills of arguing their point of view, the most instructive reports.

The Conference “Young Generation of the 21st century” has been held in St. Petersburg since 2003 on the initiative of the Children’s and Youth’s Art House of the Kalininsky District.
