Lesson of the Constitution at the Presidential Library

October 8, 2013 within the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Library held an open "lesson of the Constitution." It was also timed to coincide with the beginning of the annual contest "Russia in the Electronic World" which was launched on the website of the Presidential Library, and with the forthcoming opening of the Virtual Museum of the Constitution.

The lesson was presented by a teacher of history and social science, honored worker of the general education of the Russian Federation, the author of the federal textbooks on law, Alexander Vorontsov. In his address, he stressed the importance of knowledge about the constitutional rights of the person to the younger generation.

During the discussion of "The basic properties of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The constitutional duties of citizens,” high-school students in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, referred to the concept of constitutional duties of Russian citizens, expressed opinions on the observance of the Constitution and the laws of the Russian Federation, as well as shared ideas about the problems of preservation of historical and cultural heritage of the country.

The event was broadcast live on the website of the Presidential Library; high-school students of Moscow, Tyumen, Omsk and other cities of Russia joined the lesson through videoconferencing.  

The year of 2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The Presidential Library website provides access to a collection of documents, which include official publications of the Constitution of the Russian Federation of 1993. The centerpiece is an electronic copy of the Constitution used by the President of Russia to take the oath. The electronic holdings include the official publication of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, published as amended December 30, 2008. Also on the website of the Presidential Library there are digital copies of the first editions of the Constitution of the Russian Federation of 1918; the three constitutions of the USSR (of 1924, 1936 and 1977) and their versions; original texts and publications of the constitutions (charters) of the subjects of the Russian Federation; texts of the Constitutions of the Soviet Union and autonomous republics in various editions.
