Cooperation between the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University continues

This year, it is planned to combine the efforts of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University in the training of specialists of Russian supreme courts which are moving to St. Petersburg. A joint publishing project timed to the 150th anniversary of the judicial reforms of Alexander II, based on the documents of the time, is being developed. There is scheduled a conference to present the resources of the Presidential Library at the University for teachers in order to better incorporate the unique material available to the research and learning process.

The Presidential Library has held a survey of users of its electronic reading room, located in the sectoral legal department of the M. Gorky Scientific Library, St. Petersburg State University.

How often users access to the services of the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library? What kinds of materials from the library are most in need? How satisfied are readers with the quality of service in the electronic reading room of the library at SPSU, 22 line, V. O.? These and other questions were proposed to the survey participants.

The survey has involved more than 400 people. The results showed that over 80% of respondents are aware of the functioning of the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library. Most often, students are turning to electronic reading room resources to find materials for essays, term papers and dissertations. Among the main topics that interest the students are: constitutional and administrative law, hereditary law, family law and civil procedure, arbitration process, litigation, and others.

When working with the Presidential Library resources, there is an opportunity to quickly and easily find relevant information. Of particular interest are digital copies of rare books and chronicles, archival materials and documents that have high historical value and are unique, scientific articles and theses, publications of foreign universities.

Electronic reading room of the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg State University is the first remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library, opened in 2010. It is an important educational, scientific and educational resource that provides access to more than 300,000 units, which comprise the collections of the Presidential Library. During the cooperation with St. Petersburg State University, the Presidential Library digitized over 11,000 legal documents and periodicals of the 19th – 20th centuries from the collections of the M. Gorky Scientific Library, SPSU, which joined its holdings and have been made available through remote electronic reading rooms and regional centers to a wider audience.

According to the Dean of the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg State University, Natalia Sheveleva, four years of cooperation have shown the relevance and effectiveness of joint efforts of the two libraries, and the provision of access to them on the same site.

At the beginning of the year, the heads of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University identified targets for further joint action.

St. Petersburg State University and Presidential Library are longstanding strategic partners who share the common nature of problems set by the state. Their joint solution will increase the amount of work and enable to reach a new level of relationship.
