24 December 2014

Today, December 24, 2014, Director General of the Presidential Library Alexander Vershinin is attending a joint meeting of the Council for Culture and Arts under the President of the Russian Federation and the State Council in Moscow.

The event is held under the chairmanship of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The Presidential Library is actively involved in activities related to the formulation and implementation of state cultural policy. In December 2014, the first National Electronic Library of Russia hosted a plenary session of the III St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, which discussed the preliminary results of the Year of Culture in Russia. The meeting was presided by the Advisor to the President of Russia Vladimir Tolstoy. It was attended by St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, the Ministers of Culture of the subjects of the Russian Federation, representatives of public organizations. It was noted that this was the final session before the major meeting of the Council for Culture and the Arts and the State Council. There was emphasized the importance of regional participation in the implementation of cultural policy. It is important to not only execute federal plans but to reveal the initiatives of the territories.

These problems are directly related to the work of the Presidential Library, which develops as a national information, cultural, educational, and technological center. 130 remote electronic reading rooms allow to connect the country and foreign centers of access to the library resources, to unite them with joint projects. The results achieved affect the formation of collections, which in five years have increased more than 10 times. Students of all subjects of the Russian Federation participate more in the online competition "Russia in the Electronic World"; the number of visits to the library website has also increased - an average of 8,000 people a day. Thus, one of the foundations of cultural policy - ensuring access to the best samples of literature and art, archival materials, regardless of area of residence - is realized.

The Presidential Library has prepared for the coming Year of Literature having digitized pre-revolutionary periodicals and started to digitize documents about the works of Russian classical literature. An interactive lesson of literature for students is being prepared using multimedia technologies. There will also be an exhibition about the intertwining fates of writers, their heroes and history of the country.

Many other events will also take place, activities to develop cultural space in the Presidential Library will continue.
