Rich resources of the Presidential Library were presented at the All-Russian Library Congress

Information resources and unique capabilities of the Presidential Library were broadly represented at the Russian Library Congress, which this year was held in Samara. This largest event in the field of library takes place annually exactly before the All-Russian Day of Libraries, organized by the Russian Library Association, a member of which for already 5 years is the first electronic national library of the country.

Owing to its modern information technology, the Presidential Library tied the Moscow Region, Tyumen, Kemerovo, Pskov, Omsk, Tambov, Perm and other regions of Russia on its own website. Director of information resources of the Presidential Library Elena Zhabko on videoconference from Samara held a meaningful speech, giving feedback on the sections work, answering the most important among the raised questions and summing up the Congress. So, on the Presidential Library’s website, without visiting the Russian Library Congress, users at first hand found out about the events that took place in Samara from 17 to 22 May.

It is worth mentioning that the Presidential Library is actively developing its regional network. Today 149 regional centers and remote electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library successfully operate in 72 regions of Russia. According to the forecast of development of the regional network of the Presidential Library it is planned until 2017 to increase the number of centers of access to information resources of national electronic depositary of up to 200.

Today, the electronic funds of the Presidential Library account for more than 380 thousand units, representing more than 40 million copies of scans of the pages of documents. In the future it is planned to increase it to 50 million. An attendance of the Presidential Library website in 2014 exceeded 1,7 million people who watched more than 30 million webpages and documents. In 2015 it is expected to increase it to more than 2 million visits.

The rich resources and unique capabilities of the Presidential Library were adequately represented in the All-Russian Library Congress. The theme of the formation of more than 140 thematic digital collections was explained in details. Among these 53 selections are dedicated to the development of Russian regions. Other collections’ topics relate to the important historical events, famous statesmen and public figures, writers and so on. The most outstanding collection is the "Memory of the Great Victory", which during the 70th anniversary year of the defeat of fascism has become the main gathering in funds of the Presidential Library. The collection began to take shape five years ago; today it counts to almost 22,000 materials.

On the All-Russian Library Congress was also presented the Presidential Library in social networks. This theme was actively developed on the site of the first national electronic library a special press tour. The Presidential Library is actively positioning itself in social networks, and, as practice shows, this work is essential for users. Since 2011, the official pages of the Presidential Library appeared on all popular in Russia platforms, during this period the number of active subscribers has increased several times. The library’s webpages at the social networks connected thousands of users from around the world: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, Uzbekistan and other countries.
