New multimedia lessons of the Presidential Library will be timed to the 190th anniversary of the Decembrist revolt

October 15, 2015 the Presidential Library will launch new multimedia lessons "The year of 1825: reflections on the fate of Russia", timed to the 190th anniversary of the Decembrist revolt.

As part of the lesson high school students of St. Petersburg and regional educational institutions will have an opportunity to visit a multimedia exhibition devoted to the uprising of December 14, 1825 and certain personalities of the Decembrist movement. Plasma screens will be featuring a new collection of the Presidential Library. It will tell the visitors about the places associated with the Decembrists, the Decembrists in exile, the Senate Square, where the significant historical event took place, as well as valuable memories of the participants of the uprising. For example, there is a rare edition of Alexander Belyaev of the late 19th century, "Memories of a Decembrist of his past and experience." Students will also see a Presidential Library training film telling in detail about the Decembrist uprising.

Multimedia lesson requires students to work in groups providing an opportunity to express themselves and their views on a given subject, and also to listen to the views of their classmates. Discussions will mainly focus on the historians regard to the Decembrist uprising in different time periods. This collaboration will show the way the perceptions of the event were changing in the course of Russian history and learn more about the Decembrist coup attempt of December 14 (26), 1825 in order to prevent the accession to the throne of Nicholas I.

In addition, during the lesson students will be offered some interesting tasks: electronic voting, quizzes, discussions, which will help expand students' knowledge about the views of Russian public figures in the early 19th century on the fate of Russia. Multimedia lessons will be held from October 15 to December 25, 2015.

It is worth noting that this is not the first experience of holding multimedia lessons in the Presidential Library. The first such educational project was timed to the 20th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. During that time the lessons were attended by more than 3,500 high school students from 80 schools of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. The following multimedia lesson was held within the Year of Literature and covered the theme "Images of Russian history in the works of Russian writers." It was attended by more than 5,000 students from 139 educational institutions of St. Petersburg and the region.
