A regional center of the Presidential Library opened in Grozny

March 1, 2016 in Grozny, the A. Aidamirov National Library of the Chechen Republic hosted a grand opening of a regional center of the Presidential Library, which is going to become a cultural and educational center for the entire North Caucasus. The same day, there was held a press conference on the development of cooperation between the Chechen Republic and the Presidential Library. The events took place on the eve of the Day of Constitution of the Chechen Republic, adopted March 23, 2013 and as part of the agreement signed between the Director General of the Presidential Library Alexander Vershinin and the head of the region, Hero of Russia, Ramzan Kadyrov.

The opening ceremony of the regional center was attended by Alexander Vershinin, Director General of the Presidential Library; Khozh-Baudi Daayev, Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic; Dzhambulat Vahidovich Umarov, Minister of the Chechen Republic for the National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information; Murat Sultanovich Tagiyev, Minister of the Chechen Republic for Youth and others.

According to Alexander Vershinin, Director General of the Presidential Library, the agreement between the Presidential Library and the Chechen Republic was the first one signed in the North Caucasus. "Now we are going to develop cooperation with the region through the projects of the Presidential Library. In turn, we are ready to provide our resources for implementation of cultural initiatives in Chechnya," said Alexander Vershinin.

Grozny will take an active part in video lectures, school competitions, and other events; using multimedia resources of the Presidential Library it will enrich digital collections of its library and share digitized materials with other regions.

Kanta Ibragimov, Chairman of the Writers Union of Chechnya noted that the opening of the regional center of the Presidential Library would provide residents of the Republic with access to a wealth of scientific, cultural and historical heritage of Russia in digital form. To date, the Presidential Library's holdings number over 470, 000 electronic copies of archival documents, publications on the history of Russian state, theory and practice of law, Russian language.

At the ceremony it was noted that the regional centre was the evidence of an active support of culture, education and the entire social area by the head of the Chechen Republic. It was the attitude of Ramzan Kadyrov to the implementation of the project that made it possible to solve organizational and technical problems. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture of the region has also made a serious contribution to the fulfillment of the plans. Its head Khozh-Baudi Daayev regularly controls the development of the regional center, which will be accomplishing important tasks as part of the inter-regional network of the Presidential Library in Russia.

Opening of a regional center of the Presidential Library in Grozny was preceded by an extensive preparatory work. In October 2013, the head of the region Ramzan Kadyrov and Director General of the Presidential Library Alexander Vershinin signed an agreement. Then, in June 2014, a cooperation agreement between the Presidential Library and the A. Aidamirov National Library of Chechnya was signed.

After signing the documents, the Presidential Library specialists constantly interacted with the leadership of the Chechen Republic, experts of the National Library in order to solve practical problems, select qualified personnel, prepare workstations for users, provision of electronic keys, train the staff of the regional center. For example, specialists from Grozny came to St. Petersburg for probation; today they work successfully with electronic resources. 

The Presidential Library, opened in 2009 in St. Petersburg, is currently the largest multi-functional informational, cultural and educational center in the country, a national repository of materials on the history of Russia. The total number of centers of access to the resources of the Presidential Library opened in 74 regions of our country exceeds 200.
