The literary heritage of the South Korean writer Pak Kyongni was presented in the Presidential Library

Today, December 9, 2016 in the Presidential Library was opened a multimedia exhibition dedicated to one of the most famous writers of Korea Pak Kyongni. On the same day at the seminar on the works of South Korean writer was held a presentation of the translation of the first of the twenty volumes of the novel "Earth", the most famous works of Pak Kyongni. All events were held in the framework of the Forum "Dialogue of Russia - Republic of Korea".

The seminar was opened by the head of Cultural Fund "Earth" (Republic of Korea) Kim Youngju - daughter of the writer. In her opinion, the cultural exchange between Korea and Russia today is actively developing due to such events happening strengthening the relations between the two countries.

Vice-rector for educational and methodical work of the St. Petersburg State University Marina Lavrikova noted the contribution of the university to the work associated with the promotion of creativity of famous writer Pak Kyongni. Today, the Korean Academy - one of the most popular among applicants for admission to the St. Petersburg State University, where for more than 100 years students study language and culture of this country.

It was noted that the most famous product of Pak Kyongni is novel "Earth". The work consists of five parts that make up a total of 20 volumes. Their creation took 26 years. The novel in all aspects of the picture describes the difficult life of the Korean people, from the peasant uprising, the Japanese colonial rule until the period of the liberation of Korea in 1945. In the center - a rich landowner. The author tells the story of four generations of his family. Currently, into Russian language was translated only the first volume of this epoch-making product. The publication in the framework of the seminar was presented by his translator Mikhail Pak.

The seminar, dedicated to the life and work of a South Korean writer Pak Kyongni, was attended by the Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg Son Ilsok, scholars of the author, literary critics, representatives of higher educational institutions of Russia and Korea. In the video conferencing mode in the event participated the Presidential Library Reserve center in Moscow.
