Knowledge Week in the Volgograd Regional Center of the Presidential Library

The Volgograd Regional Center, which is running on the basis of the Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library named after M. Gorky, has organized and conducted Knowledge Week for school and university students and library users on September 1—8, 2017.

The major form of the events of Knowledge Week was a sightseeing tour, during which staff employee of the electronic reading room have introduced visitors with the possibilities of onsite and remote access to the collections from the funds of the Presidential Library, the National Electronic Library, and the Regional Studies Library of the Volgograd Oblast Universal Scientific Library named after M. Gorky.

In addition, “Knee high to a rifle” exhibition, dedicated to bravery and heroism of children and adolescents in the Battle of Stalingrad, begins its work since August 23, 2017, in the Volgograd Oblast Universal Scientific Library named after M. Gorky. The exhibition introduces visitors to the cases of participation of young citizens of our country in the defense of Stalingrad — as directly in the battle with weapons in hands in the military units, so assisting the wounded in the hospitals, fighting the enemy being the partisans and the members of underground resistance movement, completing important assignments of intelligence service.

The organizers of the exhibition paid particular attention to the examples of self-sacrifice of the young heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad.

“The Battle of Stalingrad” State Historical and Memorial National Park and Museum prepared the exposition, using book and periodical editions from the fund of the Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library named after M. Gorky, as well as the copies of documents from the collections of the National Electronic and Presidential libraries.

On September 7, 2017, staff employees of the electronic reading room together with periodicals sector held the dedicated to a use of electronic resources in the educational process thematic lesson named “Information Day” for the students of the Volgograd Branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

During the event, the students saw video about the Presidential Library, found out about a chance to participate in videoconferences, public video lecturing and other events organized by the Presidential Library. Special attention was paid to the exhibitions and events organized by the Volgograd Regional Center.

Overall, throughout “Knowledge Week” staff employees of the electronic reading room guided 21 sightseeing tours visited by 504 people.
