Four thousand children received unforgettable impressions on Russian Christmas trees in the Russian cultural and information center in Sofia

9 January 2018

The Russian cultural and information center in Sofia with great success hosted Russian Christmas trees. More than four thousand people visited 12 performances, both Russian-speaking and those who have a native language - Bulgarian. This is the first project of this scale in the country.

The project "Russian Christmas trees" in the RICC solemnly started in mid-December, when the facade of the Russian cultural and information center lit up festive illumination. The Great Hall of the RICC was invariably full.

Children's New Year's holiday in the RICC was built on three traditional elements: a theatrical performance, a round dance around a real forest tree with Father Frost and Snow Maiden, and, of course, a sweet present. The programs were in Russian and Bulgarian.

A large New Year's Fair has been running at the RICC. Visitors could buy children's books in Russian, New Year's souvenirs and hand-made articles, as well as traditional Russian patties and homemade cakes. For children, creative workshops were organized: making Christmas cards, Christmas toys and carnival masks.

The format of Russian Christmas trees perfectly blended into the multicultural environment of the modern European capital, as in Bulgaria they love and appreciate Russian culture, they learn Russian with great interest, and many of them are fluent in it since their childhood.

The portal of the Presidential Library presents electronic collection "New Year and Christmas in Russia". The collection reflects the main legislative acts and studies related to these winter holidays, their description in historical sources, award sheets, congratulatory letters, historical and modern calendars, pre-revolutionary and Soviet postcards.
