Ignatiev Games dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria were held in the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia

Ignatiev Games were held at the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia. These are intellectual competitions dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The motto of the game is "We Remember and Glorify Our Liberators".

The organizer of the event is the “Sustainable Development of Bulgaria” Foundation with the support of the Embassy of Russia in Bulgaria and the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Bulgaria. The game was attended by schoolchildren of 5-7 grades from Varna, Shumen, Sofia, Smolyan, Staraya Zagora. The members of the jury were the historian, professor Rumiana Mikhneva, the first secretary of the Embassy of Russia Alexei Novosyolov, the senior lecturer, the doctor of historical sciences Alexander Simov, the senior lecturer, the doctor of historical sciences Emilia Lazarova, the senior lecturer Tina Georgieva, the researcher Konstantin Peyev. The guest of honor of the game - Ambassador of Russia to Bulgaria Anatoly Makarov, chairman of the “Sustainable Development of Bulgaria” Foundation Stanka Shopova, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Bulgaria Pavel Zhuravlyov.

The game consisted of two stages: quizzes and assembly of themed puzzles. Captains of the teams pulled lots - to which question from the history of the Russo-Turkish liberation war of 1877-1878 they answer, and after a few minutes of preparation gave a detailed answer. In addition to the insignia and gift books, the winners were given the right to spend a week in the sanatorium and health center "Kamchia" in the international shift.

On February 19 (March 3), 1878, in the town of San Stefano (western suburb of Constantinople, since 1926 - Istanbul), a preliminary peace treaty was concluded between the Russian and Ottoman empires, which ended the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878. It was of great importance for the liberation of the Balkan peoples from the Ottoman yoke. Under the treaty, Serbia, Montenegro and Romania received independence, their territories expanded significantly. Bulgaria became an autonomy within the Ottoman Empire, having received the right to its government, army; The connection with Turkey was limited to paying tribute. Turkish troops were withdrawn from Bulgaria, the Russians remained in it for 2 years.

The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "Russia-Bulgaria: from the history of relationships", in the framework of which you can see the research and documents on the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and the Treaty of San Sefano. In particular, the collection presents a monograph of 1878 "The Russo-Turkish War, predetermined by Peter the Great about the deliverance of Eastern Christians from the Turkish age-old yoke. Issue 1 and Issue 2", as well as "A short story about the Slavs (especially about the Bulgarians), i.e., about their origin, customs, beliefs, etc., and about the oppression of the Turks" by A. Vyshgorodsky in 1878.
