A meeting with the pupils of the educational complex "School-Lyceum" of the Baku Slavic University on the topic "100 years of moving the capital from Petrograd to Moscow" was held at the Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku.

The event was held by the researcher of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan Fuad Agayev. The materials of the Presidential Library were used while preparing the meeting.

At the end of the summer or the beginning of the autumn of 1917, the complex internal political situation and the approach of German troops to Petrograd forced the Provisional Government to think about moving to Moscow.

On February 26, 1918, a meeting of the Council of People's Commissars took place in Petrograd, at which Lenin drafted a decree on the evacuation of the government to Moscow. Preparations for departure and the departure itself were not advertised. The announcement of the government's move was published in the newspaper “Pravda” after the members of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars left Petrograd.

March 12, 1918 Moscow once again became the capital, now of the Soviet state. On March 16, 1918 the Extraordinary Fourth All-Russian Congress of Soviets sanctioned by its decision the government's resolution.

On the portal of the Presidential Library, everyone can read the fragments of the newsreel "Moving the Soviet Government from Petrograd to Moscow, March 14-16, 1918".

March 12 to May 12, 2018, the Presidential Library opened the exhibition "Journey from Petrograd to Moscow. 1918: to the 100th anniversary of the Soviet government's relocation and the move of the capital to Moscow". The exposition is devoted to the events of March 1918, associated with the history of the relocation of the heads of the new Soviet state, commissariats and other important administrative and political structures.
