    • Mikhail Speransky (1772–1839)

      The collection to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding statesman, reformer and lawmaker M. M. Speransky features research about his life and career, memories of him, published works, correspondence and archival materials. The collection is based the documents of the RGIA collections "Papers of M. M. Speransky" systematized by themes, reflecting the activities of Speransky in the field of reforming and codifying Russian legislation.

    • Patriotic War of 1812

      The 200th anniversary of one of the most momentous events of the Russian history – the Patriotic War of 1812 - was celebrated in 2012. “The 1812 Thunder” left a deep imprint on the memories of contemporaries and descendants, affecting all spheres of life of our country. Alexander Herzen once highlighted “it is the year of 1812 that genuinely reveals the real Russian history; everything before that was just a preface.” The collection that commemorates the event comprises a wide variety of materials which spotlight the history of the Patriotic War of 1812 in all its diversity.

    • Decembrists in the History of Russia

      The year of 2015 marks the 190th anniversary of the Decembrist revolt on the Senate Square in St. Petersburg. In memory of the event the Presidential Library has prepared a thematic collection "Decembrists in Russia's history".

    • Crimean War (1853–1856)

      The collection is dedicated to the causes, course and results of the Crimean War. It includes a whole range of historical evidence: research studies, memoirs, compilations, reports (of the Tauride Scientific Archival Commission and the Commission for Inquiry on Abuses in the Quartermaster), essays, works of art, archival documents, collections of marine periodicals, cartographic, visual, multimedia materials.

    • Pyotr Chaadayev (1794–1856)

      The collection, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Russian philosopher and publicist Pyotr Chaadayev features his works (Philosophical Letters), correspondence, biographical materials and studies dedicated to him.

    • Russian voyages around the world in the first half of 19th century

      The collection timed to coincide with 215th anniversary of the first Russian circumnavigation of the world, provides access to research works, archival documents from the Foreign Policy Archive of the Russian Federation and the Russian State Historical Archive, video and visual materials. The collection comprises general geographical studies on voyages around the world, works of members of the first expedition: Ivan Krusenstern, Yuri Lisyansky, Nikolai Rezanov, Fyodor Shemelin, and members of other voyages as well: Otto von Kotzebue, Faddey Bellingshausen and Fyodor Litke. The collection spotlights the archival documents: instructions and letters given to the expedition members, materials which focus on publication of research works of participants. A separate section provides an insight into the service and scholarly work of expedition members after the voyages. The collection also contains images of monuments to Ivan Krusenstern and Mikhail Lazarev.

    • Nikolay Karamzin (1766–1826)

      The collection is devoted to the 250th birth anniversary of the famous Russian historian, writer, publicist Nikolay Karamzin. It features research, essays and archival documents about the life and work of Karamzin; his literary and scientific heritage, including his main work History of the Russian State; correspondence; video lectures revealing the collections of various libraries related to Nikolay Karamzin; projects and photographs of monuments.

    • Archaeographic Commission

      The collection includes publications of the Archaeographic Commission (1836—1931), amassed basing on the analysis of bibliographic indexes and stocks of the major Russian libraries. These documents have not lost their relevance and scientific value until now, taking into account that many sources were published only in the editions of the Archaeographic Commission.

    • Pyotr Kireevsky (1808–1856)

      The collection dedicated to Pyotr Kireevsky (1808-1856) - the folklorist, collector of folk poetry, specialist in archaeography and publicist – is built up of publications about his life and work, as well as a posthumous series of books featuring songs collected by P. Kireevsky that was commissioned by the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature.

    • Vasily Struve (1793–1864)

      The collection, timed to the 225th birth anniversary of an outstanding Russian astronomer of German descent, a member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences, the founder and the first director of the Pulkovo Observatory, includes archival materials and scientific research on the life and scientific work of Vasily Yakovlevich Struve and his family.

    • Mikhail Glinka (1804–1857)

      The collection is timed to coincide with the 215th anniversary of the birth of the Russian composer Mikhail Glinka, the first Russia classical composer, founder of the Russian national school of the world opera. The collection contains electronic copies of books, brochures, archive documents and visual materials focused on the composer’s life and work.

    • Senate Square in Postcards

      The Senate Square is one of the oldest in St. Petersburg. It began to take shape in 1704 and at first was just an earth embankment in front of the Admiralty.

    • Saint Isaac’s Cathedral

      The collection dedicated to Saint Isaac’s Cathedral consists of descriptions of the church, archival documents (including plans and technical drawings), which spotlight the history of its construction and activities, as well as visual materials featuring views of the cathedral in different historical periods.

    • Alexander Column

      The Alexander Column - the highest column in the world made of solid stone - was installed in the center of the Palace Square in St. Petersburg in 1834 designed by the architect Montferrand. The collection timed to the jubilee includes memories of the celebration event on August 30 (September 11), 1834, descriptions and images of the monument in different historical periods.

    • Emancipation Reform of 1861

      February 19 (March 3 new style), 1861 Emperor Alexander II signed the ‘Manifesto on the Imperial donation of rights of free villagers to serfs’ and the ‘General Regulations on peasants emancipated from serfdom.’ As a result, over 20 million serfs gained freedom. The collection, covering this event includes editions which reflect the history of peasant question in Russia, elaboration and implementation of the Emancipation Reform, personalities of reformers, as well as essential legislative documents of the reform, memoirs of contemporaries and journalistic works on the peasant question.

    • Judicial Reform of 1864

      To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the judicial reform, which was intended to provide a fast, fair and merciful justice to all Russian citizens, the Presidential Library makes available to a comprehensive collection of sources on the history of elaboration and introduction of the legislative reform in the Russian Empire, which were previously almost inaccessible.

    • Mikhail Muravyov (1796–1866)

      The collection is dedicated to the life, military and civil service, community service and scientific work of an outstanding statesman of the Russian Empire Count Mikhail Nikolayevich Muravyov-Vilensky. An assembling of the collection is coincides with two related to mister Muravyov commemorative dates at once − the 220th anniversary of his birth and the 150 years from his death.

    • Alexander Gorchakov (1798–1883)

      The collection dedicated to the outstanding statesman of the Russian Empire Alexander Gorchakov features archival materials (the draft on the emancipation of serfs, correspondence on the sale of Alaska etc.), scientific research on education of Prince Gorchakov at the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo and Russia’s foreign policy in the second half of the 19th c., as well as visual materials and a documentary.

    • Russian America

      Featured collection includes the archival materials and the studies that tell about the North American territories that were part of the Russian Empire in the XVIII and the XIX centuries, a history of their discovery and development, the activities of the Russian-American Company and the Russian Orthodox Church in North America.

    • Russian naval expedition to the shores of North America (1863–1864)

      The set of documents covering the campaign of 1860s of two Russian cruiser squadrons under the command of Rear-Admirals S. S. Lesovsky and A. A. Popov to the shores of the United States, includes some articles and reviews published in the national press from the time when the event took place to the present, as well as an essay published by the US Naval historical Foundation.

    • Mikhail Skobelev (1843–1882)

      The collection, dedicated to Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev, the outstanding Russian commander and strategist, hero of the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), head of the Akhal-Tekke Expedition, Adjutant General, features biographies, written during his lifetime and after his death, which cast light on the general’s life and service, military exploits and the momentous Central Asian expedition, as well as archival, visual materials and maps.

    • Konstantin Pobedonostsev (1827–1907)

      The collection featuring Konstantin Pobedonostsev, major statesman, legal scholar, chief procurator of the Holy Synod, founder of the system of parochial and non-classical secondary schools in Russia includes archival materials (diaries, memos, drafts, correspondence, biographical materials), humbly reports of Pobedonostsev in office of the chief procurator and his scientific works.
    • Mikhail Katkov (1818–1887)

      The collection, dedicated to the bicentenary of the birth of M. N. Katkov, a well-known journalist and editor of Moskovskiye Vedomosti (Moscow News) newspaper, includes books and archival materials, which spotlight his research work, literary career, editorship and public activities.

    • Russian inventions: Pages of history

      Year 2021 has been declared the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. The collection, marking this event, features official documents, archival materials, research papers and video films, dedicated to the history of Russian inventions.

    • West-Siberian Railway

      The collection is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the West-Siberian Railway - one of the leading steel highways of Russia, which connects the railways of Eastern Siberia with the roads of the Urals and the European part of Russia, it organizes the transportation of transit cargo and passenger traffic in five subjects of the Russian Federation: the Omsk, the Novosibirsk , the Kemerovo and the Tomsk regions and the Altai territory, and partly on the territory of Kazakhstan.
    • Dmitri Mendeleev (1834–1907)

      The collection, which is dedicated to the renowned Russian chemist and thinker Dmitri Mendeleev, includes his works, correspondence; archival documents about his relatives, scientific, educational and public activities; 20th-century studies, which spotlight Dmitri Mendeleev’s scientific heritage, and visual materials.

    • Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky (1827-1914)

      The collection marking the 195th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian geographer, traveler, statesman and public figure P. P. Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky features his memoirs, archival documents about his service activities, video recordings, and visual materials. Of particular importance are the scientist's research, as well as fundamental works on geography and statistics, compiled under his editorship (multi-volume works "Geography of Asia", "Geographical and Statistical Dictionary of the Russian Empire", "Picturesque Russia", "Russia").

    • Russian Historical Society

      The digital collection is built of the archival documents, reflecting various aspects of the accomplishments of the Russian Historical Society, of the materials from the individual archive its chairman, the Secretary of State and a member of the National Council A. A. Polovtsov. A full set of collected works released by the society during its existence is also included.

    • Imperial Archaeological Commission

      The Imperial Archaeological Commission was founded on February 15, 1859 by Alexander II. It existed until 1919, when its functions were entrusted to the Russian Academy of the History of Material Culture. The commission became the first state archaeological institution in the country. The practices of the Commission formed the basis of the modern regulation of archaeological research and the system of protection of monuments in Russia. The collection, dedicated to the 160th anniversary of its foundation, includes publications of the commission, as well as archival documents on its establishment and development.

    • Dmitry Ilovaisky (1832–1920)

      The collection dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the birth of a prominent historian, the creator of original historical concepts and the author of the most stable pre-revolutionary  history textbooks Dmitry Ilovaisky is based on the documents of the personal collections of the Russian State Historical Archives arranged by themes - materials about the life of the historian, his scientific and publishing activities, correspondence and photographs. The "Works" section features extensive collection of his scientific works, textbooks, articles, reviews on them and discussions of Ilovaisky with other historians.

    • Fyodor Plevako (1842–1909)

      The collection, timed to coincide with the 175th anniversary of an outstanding Russian lawyer Fyodor Nikiforovich Plevako, contains various information about him, his speeches, content of particular cases and his correspondence.

    • Sergey Solovyov (1820-1879)

      The collection is devoted to the 200th anniversary of Sergey Solovyov (1820-1879), the outstanding Russian historian, academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. It features biographical research, documents about his career, various editions of History of Russia from the Earliest Times and other works, as well as documents on the founding of a Solovyov's scholarship at the St. Vladimir University.

    • Ilya Repin (1844–1930)

      The collection, which is built up ahead of the 175th anniversary of the birth of the Russian artist Ilya Repin, consists of electronic copies of books, archival documents, articles from periodicals, which are devoted to the life and work of the artist, as well as reproductions of his paintings.

    • Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1840–1893)

      Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) is one of the greatest composers in the history of music. He also made an enormous contribution to the development of Russian culture as a conductor, popularizer of Russian music abroad, educator, music journalist and public figure.

      The collection dedicated to a Russian revolutionary, ideological leader of anarchism, scientist-geographer P. A. Kropotkin includes the biographies, recollections of contemporaries, studies of political doctrine of Kropotkin, his geographic and social-political writings, correspondence and illustrations.

    • Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905

      A series of turbulent events of the 20th century began for Russia from a war far in the east. Japan, which unleashed the war, blockaded and besieged Port Arthur, the main base of Russian naval forces in the Pacific. The defense and the subsequent surrender of the fortress became a tragic symbol of the war. Military setbacks, the largest of which were the overland Battle of Mukden and the Tsushima Naval Battle, the name of which became common, were one of the causes of the revolution of 1905-1907 forcing the Russian part to agree to a compromise and sign a peace treaty. The local war turned for Russia into the loss of the entire Navy and the loss of strategic positions in the Far East.

    • State Duma in the history of Russian statehood

      The collection marks the 115th anniversary of the First Duma of the Russian Empire. It comprises the constituent documents, archival materials, political writings, research, verbatim records of meetings, reviews of activities and illustrative materials.

    • Pyotr Stolypin (1862–1911)

      Pyotr Stolypin is one of the greatest Russian statesmen of the late 19th - early 20th century. His name is associated with the most important domestic reforms of the early 20th century in the socio-political and socio-economic spheres, conducted under the looming crisis of the state system. Therefore, at all times the personality and activities of Stolypin attracted the attention of researchers and all those interested in Russian history. Ambiguous opinions of the man and his reforms once more demonstrate his enormous impact on the development of the Russian state, and show the need for further study of his legacy.

    • Petersburg tram

      The collection dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the launch of the first electric tram in St. Petersburg includes plans, drawings, archival materials, newspaper articles covering the history of the development of the tramway in St. Petersburg, the technical arrangement of wagons, parks and tracks, the participation of tram workers in the strike movement, functioning of the tram in besieged Leningrad; photographs depicting the expositions of the Museum of Urban Electric Transport are also presented.

    • Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857–1935)

      The collection dedicated to the prominent representative of Russian cosmism, the founder of theoretical cosmonautics, Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky, includes editions introducing the life and work of the scientist, his works on the theory of air and space science, rocket science, astronomy, physics, biology, as well as philosophical and sci-fi works.

    • Vasily Klyuchevsky (1841–1911)

      The collection features the prominent Russian historian Vasily Klyuchevsky. The collection includes digital copies of research works, archival documents and memoirs. There are the texts of the historian’s writings (including his most famous work, "The Course of Russian History"), as well as biographical information about him.

    • Lev Petrazhitsky (1867–1931)

      Current collation dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of a Russian and a Polish scientist, a legal scholar, a sociologist, a philosopher and a deputy of the first State Duma Lev Petrazhitsky contains his selected legal studies, a research work of his scientific endeavor, a letter, addressed to the scientist, and the photographs.
