In 1859 the Chinese official and scientist He Tsutao wrote the first in China work on Russian-Chinese relations in New Time. Emperor Xianfeng named it "Shofang beicheng", which is the geographical name of the border regions of Northern China. The National Library of China holds 69 volumes of this work, published between 1875 and 1908
