On the postcard photo of the iron door (or portal Aleviz) of the Khan Palace in Bakhchisaray. The iron door is considered the oldest part of the building, dates back to Mengli-Giray (1468-1515). The portal was created by an outstanding Italian architect, known in Russia as Fryazin and Aleviz Novy. Presumably, Aleviz's Portal first belonged to the old Khan's palace in Ashlam-Dere and then moved to a new palace in Bakhchisaray. The Khan Palace is a monument of history and culture, the only example of the Crimean Tatar palace architecture in the world. The construction of the palace began simultaneously with the construction of the city in the beginning of the 16th century, during the reign of Khan Sahib I Gerai. In 1736, during the Crimean War, Bakhchisaray was captured by Russian troops. Later, after the annexation of the Crimea to Russia, the palace housed the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was visited by Empress Catherine II and Sovereign Alexander I. In 1820 Alexander Pushkin visited the palace, later sang it in the poem "Bakhchisarai Fountain". The Khan Palace is part of the Bakhchsarai Historical and Cultural Reserve. In its premises there are a museum of history and culture of the Crimean Tatars, an art museum, an exhibition of cold and firearms. The territory of the palace complex occupies 4.3 hectares .
