Varlaamo-Khutynsky Monastery is located 9 km from Veliky Novgorod in the village of Khutyn. The name "hutyn" comes from a "bad place". According to popular tradition, Varlaam with the help of prayer drove out evil spirits from this area. In 1192 Varlaam founded a monastery and laid the stone church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. Currently, the monastery is an architectural complex of the XVI-XIX centuries.
