On the postcard picture of Grotto Foros. It was an artificial road structure on the old Sevastopol highway, not far from Baydarskie gates. The tunnel in the rock was penetrated in the 19th century. He was a kind of visiting card for Foros. It was blown up during the Great Patriotic War by German troops when retreating in 1944. The picture shows the Church of the Resurrection of Christ on the Red Rock. It was built in 1892 according to the project of Academician NM Chagin in memory of the rescue of Emperor Alexander III and his family in the wreck of the train on October 17, 1888 at the station of Borki of the Kursk-Kharkov railway. The money for construction was allocated by the tea-grower A. G. Kuznetsov, the owner of the Foros estate, located at the foot of the Red Rock.
