The piloted spaceships Vostok-3, headed by Andriyan Nikolayev and Vostok-4, operated by Pavel Popovich were sent into space on August 11, 1962. Due to the great accuracy in bringing into orbit of both ships, the parameters of their orbits practically coincided, the maximum approach of the ships was about 6.5 km. During the flight, the cosmonauts visually observed each other's ships. Radio communication between the ships and the Earth was maintained. The astronauts were released from the catapult seats and swam freely in the cabin under conditions of weightlessness; biomedical experiments were conducted. One of the tasks of the joint flight of the two ships was a military experiment on the program for the creation of an interceptor of satellites, while Vostok-3 played the role of the target, and the Vostok-4 interceptor launched after it. Also, a new record was set for the duration of the flight - 94 hours 22 minutes .
