On the postcard is a photo of the ruins of the medieval fortress town of Chufut-Kale in Crimea, located in the territory of Bakhchisaray region, 2.5 km east of Bakhchisaray. The city appeared presumably in the 5th-6th centuries as a fortified settlement on the border of Byzantine possessions. Located at an altitude of 558 meters above sea level on a plateau with inaccessible cliffs. Chufut-Kale is completely inaccessible from the north, west and south sides, vertical cliffs reach a height of up to 50 meters. From a distance it seems that the houses "stuck" directly to the rock. At present, most of Chufut-Kale is in ruins, but several buildings have survived, which attract the attention of numerous tourists. - Materials of the site "About the Crimea" (http://www.qrim.ru/about/sights/Cufut-Qale) .
