The exhibition was opened on September 18, 2009 year in the building of the former Public Offices of the Novgorod Kremlin. The structure of the exhibition includes two sections - historical and artistic. The historical section is devoted to the history of Novgorod from its emergence to its annexation to Moscow (IX - XV cc.). This part of the exhibition reveals such topics as the origin of Novgorod, the peculiarities of its state structure, trade routes, the adoption of Christianity, writing and bookishness. The second part of the exhibition, dedicated to the art of Veliky Novgorod, reveals the themes of musical culture and art craft. The exhibition features the following monuments of the Old Russian state: birchbark, Christian cult items, certificates of the press, coins, armament and equipment of the rider, as well as jewelry, musical instruments, fragments of frescoes of the 12th and 14th centuries, works of ancient Russian gold and silk embroidery . Among the unique exhibits of the exhibition are the parchment charters of the 11th-12th centuries, the Novgorod psalter of the 11th century, a selection of fragments of the painting of 1199 from the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior on Nereditsa and fragments of painting from the middle of the 14th century. the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin on Volotovo Field, destroyed during the Second World War. - The materials of the site were used: "Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve" (URL: http://novgorodmuseum.ru/chto-posmotret/65-vystavka-novgorod-v-istorii-r... .
