The monument to polytechnics who died during the Great Patriotic War, is installed in the park of the Polytechnic University in front of the southern facade of the main building. It was opened on September 23, 1967. The authors of the project are a creative team of sculptors A. M. Ariev, S. F. Korytina, V. P. Petin and architect O. N. Bashinsky. The monument is a stele made up of two dozen granite blocks of red color, a height of 3 meters and a width of 7 meters. Most of the surface of the stele is polished and the inscription is stamped on it: "Polytechnics for their country, for communism, gave their lives to the Great Patriotic War 1941 - 1945. Cases and feats of arms are immortal in the memory of generations." On the right side of the stele there is a relief of three young soldiers, in front of which two real soldiers' helmets, found on the battlefields, lie on a low round granite foundation. During the Great Patriotic War, more than 3,500 students and employees of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute went to the front and fought with dignity - three of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The monument was built at the expense of teachers, workers, employees, students and graduates of the LPI - as evidenced by an inscription embossed on one of the granite blocks on the back of the stele. Address: st. Polytechnic, 29, in front of the southern facade of the Main Educational building .
