The monument was erected 23 (11 ) October 1831 in memory of the stay and death of Alexander I in Taganrog. The place for the installation of the monument was indicated by the widow of the emperor Elizaveta Alekseevna. Most of the money for the construction of the monument was donated by members of the Romanov Imperial House, the rest of the sum was collected by residents of Taganrog. The bronze figure of the emperor is draped in full height with a cloak, from under which the general's uniform is visible. With one hand the king supports the hilt of the sword, in the other - holds a scroll - the code of laws of the Russian Empire. Alexander's foot tramples the wriggling body of the snake, symbolizing the victory over Napoleon, the winged angels at the feet of the sculpture point to the angelic character of Alexander I. The monument was destroyed in the 1920s, the sculpture sent for remelting. To the 300th anniversary of the city of Taganrog, the monument to Emperor Alexander I was restored and inaugurated on September 12, 1998 on the same site as in 1831 - on the former Bank Square (now Alexandrovskaya) .
