The bronze bust for the monument was cast in St. Petersburg, at the factory of VZ Gavrilov, according to the model of the sculptor I. Ya. Gunzburg. The bust (breastplate) represented the emperor with his head open, in uniform, with the Andreev ribbon over his shoulder. On the granite pedestal, the inscription was inscribed: "To Peter I, grateful ohtians." The monument was opened on September 25, 1911. The installation of the monument to Peter the Great on Okhta was timed to coincide with the 190th anniversary of the formation of the Okhta settlements, which was celebrated in 1911. The place for the bust monument was chosen at the building of the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, built in 1836-1844 on the site of the old Okhta Trinity cemetery that existed in 1727-1773. When the destruction of the Holy Spirit Church in 1932-1933, the monument disappeared. The reconstructed monument was opened on May 23, 2003, during the celebration of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg .
