The film is dedicated to a diplomat, scout, Russian officer, orientalist, traveler, first Russian envoy to Kabul Ivan Vitkevich (1808-1839). The fate of the outstanding man I. Vitkevich is told in the early novel by Julian Semenov "Diplomatic agent". The film uses: fragments of the film "The Far Pavilions" (Goldcrest, 1984); Soviet chronicles of the 1950s; archival recordings of the speech of Yu Semenov in the television studio "Ostankino" in 1982; photos from the archive of the Cultural Foundation Julian Semenov .
