The Atlas was prepared by I. Akhmatov (1766-1829) on the initiative of N. M. Karamzin, as an important addition to his "History of the Russian State". The first edition of the atlas was published in 1829 and 1831. in two parts. The first part contains 36 maps - from "the origin of peoples, the generation of Homere, Magogov and Masokhov" until 1125 - the beginning of the reign of Mstislav Vladimirovich; the second - 35 cards and is devoted to events from 1132 to 1480, from Yaropolk to Ivan III. 17 maps of the first part are devoted to the period of antiquity and the early Middle Ages, and starting from the twentieth map of the first part each is devoted to the reign of one prince - from Rurik to Ivan III. The cards were highly praised by NM Karamzin. Encouraged by this, Akhmatov conceived to create an atlas for all the volumes of "History", but did not, and the second part was published after his death. - The materials of the site Ruunivers (http://www.runiverse.ru/lib/book3293/16652/)
